“I am the Vice President of Arena Security and Public Safety. I basically oversee the arena and public safety for the venue, which consists of a 24-hour security staff, CMPD that work at our events, event security and then our local, state and federal officials pertaining to safety for the venue.”

Describe what you do with the Charlotte Hornets organization.

“I am the Communications Assistant. I support all department initiatives, events and activations. My daily responsibilities include travel lists, compiling daily press clippings, assisting the digital team with Xytech submissions, transcribing media availabilities, assisting the Corporate Social Responsibility team with some of its events and activations if needed and any other administrative duties.”

Employee Feature: Meet Lawrence West

Throughout the month of February, Hornets.com will be highlighting employees across different departments within the organization in celebration of Black History Month

Describe what you do with the Charlotte Hornets organization.

“I’m the General Manager and Head Coach of Hornets Venom GT, which is the organization’s E Sports affiliate with the NBA 2K League. Under my General Manager responsibilities, I’m responsible for building the roster, scouting new potential players and talent evaluation. I look at game skills, personality traits and consider how the players I currently have on the roster would mesh with new players.”

“Once the team is drafted, I throw on the coaching hat and manage the day-to-day activities like our practice schedule, making sure we’re sharp for the games, that everybody knows the plays, that everybody’s bringing certain energy, being motivated and being held to a high standard. I do whatever I can to bring the best out of the team.”

Employee Feature: Meet Cornell Jones

Describe what you do with the Charlotte Hornets organization.

“I am a Producer and I get the chance to conceptualize ideas, shoot video, edit and take things through the full production process. I just started a few months ago, so it’s been a fun, exhilarating time coming in during the middle of the season. I’ve had the opportunity to work on a lot of Black History Month projects. It’s been very fun.”

Employee Feature: Meet Kirsten Burney

Throughout the month of February, Hornets.com will be highlighting employees across different departments within the organization in celebration of Black History Month

Describe what you do with the Charlotte Hornets organization.

“I am a Senior Human Resources Coordinator. My role involves helping to develop the training processes, the recruiting and employer relations. I support the recruiting process, so bringing in all of our staff, including full-time, part-time and interns. Without them – especially our part-time employees and interns – our organization wouldn’t run as well as it does. I work and help support programs like Buzz City U, which is a series of internal developmental classes and workshops for our employees. I also assist with different projects like onboarding, employee engagement, developing handbooks and making sure our policies and procedures are in place.”

Employee Feature: Meet Nadia Thomas

Describe what you do with the Charlotte Hornets organization.

“I am a Manager of Accounting working in the Finance Department for the Charlotte Hornets. As a team we also do the finance and accounting for not only the Charlotte Hornets but also the Greensboro Swarm, Hornets Venom GT, Arena operations and the Hornets Foundation. One of my primary tasks is supporting the sponsorship team in billing and AR accounting, I also support team store accounting along with the Foundation along with bunch of other things. There are six of us on the finance team and while we each have things that we focus on, we are also an all-hands-on-deck finance team which is something that I truly appreciate. We make sure all the numbers are right for the Hornets Organization.”

Employee Feature: Meet Shevayah Way

Describe what you do with the Charlotte Hornets organization.

“I am an Account Executive in Memberships Sales, which means bringing in new business with regards to selling season tickets. All of our ticket plans – full season, half season, mini plans, six games – go through our department. We do individual games as well, like courtside seats, royal boxes, suites and premium seating in addition to concerts and shows at Spectrum Center.”
